Fees for counselling
CMCS counsellors are paid fees for their work. In 2025 the maximum fee payable to a CMCS counsellor is £55 per session, including any contribution from you (the person receiving counselling). Fees are reviewed annually.
These fees are paid centrally from your denomination or diocese or organisation, or partly by you and the rest centrally.
Counsellors are not authorised to make
other plans to receive payment
for CMCS counselling from any other source such
as a local church or
circuit or regional association or college.
Your Area Co-ordinator or your counsellor will explain the fee
arrangements.
Always be guided by your Area Co-ordinator if any queries
arise,
or if you have been given different information by anyone else.
The arrangement - as decided by the denomination/diocese/organisation centrally - will be one of these three types:
Type A: No contribution is expected from you, the participating denomination or diocese or organisation will pay the full fees.
Type A examples: Anglican Dioceses of Derby, Exeter, Guildford, Sheffield, and Southwark, and the Anglican Racial Justice Unit; Salvation Army; URC from a date in 2025
Type B: This is our standard arrangement. You will be asked to pay an
affordable amount per session, direct to the counsellor. You decide
what is affordable for you. Even if that is only £5 per session, it will
make a difference to the balance that is charged to the denomination or
organisation. If you find that you are unable to make any contribution,
your
denomination/organisation will meet the full fees.
Type B examples: BMS World Mission (UK staff); Methodist Church;
BUC of Seventh-Day Adventists; URC until recently; UWI
Type C: You are required to pay a
set amount for each session, direct to
the counsellor, and the participating denomination or organisation pays
the rest.
Your Area Co-ordinator or your counsellor will let you know the amount you are to pay,
which will not exceed one-third of the total fee.
If the set amount seems too high for you,
tell the Area Co-ordinator
before counselling starts. The Area Co-ordinator is the only person
authorised to negotiate a reduction through the proper channels.
Type C examples: BUGB; BUW; Congregational Federation
